Sony PlayStation network name changes on radar
Maybe you were 14 when you setup your Sony PlayStation network name: XXxKillerZergerxXX and now that you are a decade older and more refined you realize that name really doesn’t suit you anymore. Changing your network name hasn’t been a possibility and was permanent once you created it.
However, in a recent interview at PlayStation Experience, Sony’s Shawn Layden said that he’d like to have a name change option available sometime in 2018.
The reason why name changes haven’t been available prior to now was because it giving rise to possible trolling and griefing. This could be prevented by implementing a system like Ebay has for example. There would be an indicator that you have changed your ID and a cooldown period where you could not change it again. Sony could even charge a premium for the change which would cut down on potential abuse.
Eventually it will come, but the logistics of it have to be figured out. Sometime down the road you will be able to ditch that nickname that no longer is wanted.
