ROBLOX expanding its cross-platforms to include VR
ROBLOX announced that it has launched virtual reality (VR) on Oculus Rift with cross-platform capability, furthering its vision of Powering Imagination™. They are saying upon launch it will be the largest social VR experience in the world with over 20 million monthly visitors. ROBLOX is known for its platform for creating adventures, playing games, role playing, and learning in a family-friendly, immersive 3D environment.
ROBLOX has enhanced the platform with best-in-class character and camera controls for VR, improving comfort for all users. ROBLOX has added the option to play in first or third person, and reduced accelerations with respect to jump speeds and falling. These developments give user the ability to step back from their avatar, adding a level of separation for sensitive users.
For the creator community on ROBLOX, the company has expanded its monetization model, allowing developers to earn revenue on Oculus Rift.
It’s said that there is a 13 year-old creator pulling in upwards of a quarter of a million dollars a year on ROBLOX. Many of these creators are using their profits for college tuition, or to launch careers in game development. Kudos they’re not running out and buying the latest gaming rig with it.
