Ncsoft’s Lineage 2 Mobile MMO to Launch in South Korea 2016
The Lineage franchise continues to be NCsoft’s top money maker even after 17 years. Can’t figure it out? That would be 1998, which speaks yards about the game’s longevity. NCsoft recently held a live event called “Beyond Lineage” to showcase the future of their franchise. Two mobile games are forthcoming using the Lineage IP. First, there is Lineage on Mobile, which was originally codenamed “Project L”.
Lineage on Mobile remains more faithful to Lineage on Mobile devices. They have done well in keeping as close as possible the graphics and gameplay of the original. You can expect some customization of controls for the mobile platform. Next, there will be Lineage Red Knights. Originally codenamed “Project RK.” This mobile version steers away from the serious Lineage textures, characters and graphics and presents a cuter version of the IP.
Both Lineage on Mobile and Lineage Red Knights will launch in South Korea in 2016. NCsoft has yet to release any information if the two will be widely released to other markets. Additionally, NCsoft is opening its 50th game server on 16 December to commemorate its 17th year.
Finally, an app known as Lineage Coliseum will go live next year, showcasing live PVP events from Lineage.
