Within the next decade,
television will cease as we know it.
In-game advertising will become the
unequivocal leading advertising medium
of the next generation. Of course, as we
sit here today, it is hard to imagine
a medium larger than
that of television, but we know that the
computer is being used more and more in
the daily lives of people, and
consequently the television is used less
and less. The television is losing
market share and fast. The migratory trend will
continue until gaming has eroded
significant market share from
television. The TV, as we know it, will
no longer be by 2020.
The trend will continue because of
One Box Integration (OBI),
whereas a single product (one box)
functionally provides various
entertainment options. At this stage,
OBI, is being introduced through, of all
products, gaming consoles like (XBOX
360 and the SONY PLAYSTATION 3).
OBI units will integrate the Internet,
gaming, radio, digital playback (DVD),
and digitally streamed mediums
(programming content, music etc)
seamlessly into one unobtrusive unit. In
later years, some aspects of the
personal computer will be further
integrated into OBI's through
application software titles released on
console platforms. At one point, a
single OBI unit will occupy the home and
will have fully assumed all of the other
individual product's roles.
Integrating advertising into the OBI
will prove critical for the advertising
industry. Companies that neglect the
emerging presence of gaming will simply
perish. GameGlance provides a vehicle
and services in order to facilitate the
penetration of the gaming aspect of the
OBI. Smart advertisers have long since
utilized in-game advertising. Wise ones
will recognize the opportunity and
progress.
Make no mistakes about it: the in-game
advertising industry is still
formulating. These are the early years;
the pioneering days. It is an industry
that will become a multi-billon dollar
industry within a matter of years. So,
hold on tight. It's about to get crazy!
